Smart questions for green solutions

The topics of sustainability and social responsibility play a major role everywhere and are also close to our hearts. In order to fully integrate green thinking into our company, the Smart & Green Team was created. Our trainees are in charge here and are supported by their coordinators wherever they need it.

Where can we save resources? How can a work process be optimized? How do I organize the work in the team? These and other questions are at the heart of Smart & Green.

Since the team came into being, it has already achieved a number of successes. We would like to tell you about them.

Water straight from the tap

Originally, PMA/TOOLS AG had its water supplied by a manufacturer that is not local.
By switching to a nearby supplier, we now save around 224 kg of CO₂ per year.

But that was not enough for us. Just recently, we went one step further and had drinking water systems installed so we can acquire sparkling, still and hot water directly from the tap.

The Smart & Green team is pleased to see that even small changes like these go a long way towards improving our environmental footprint.

Adhesive paper tape

A few months ago, the Smart & Green team decided to abandon the classic plastic tape roll when sealing our shipping boxes and instead use the environmentally friendly alternative made of paper.

This change saves us around 122 kg of plastic per year based upon equivalent usage.

The production of paper tape produces less CO₂ than the production of plastic tape. With our annual consumption, this results in 180 kg less CO₂.
Another plus point: paper tape produces less waste and is therefore sustainable until it is disposed of.

Paper delivery note pockets

Every month, around 1650 packages leave our warehouse with a delivery note bag attached.
Our team saw great potential for savings and replaced the red plastic bags with green bags made of 100 % paper.

This directly scores double points: every month we save 66 kg of plastic with this change and as a nice bonus the new colour suits us much better.

By using paper-based materials (paper tape and paper mailing bags), we are able to use sustainable raw materials. Nevertheless, we work with them in a way that conserves resources as much as possible.
Paper and cardboard are perfect circular products and can be recycled without any problems.

Improvements bit by bit

Of course, not every idea leads to the desired success, but our Smart & Green team looks at work and production processes, material use and everything that has potential for improvement.
